Children's Books North Network connects and supports published children's writers, illustrators and publishing professionals living in the North West, North East, Yorkshire and Scotland.
The Brief
Founder Emma Layfield approached me to join the committee as their designer and implement a website for the network. The existing organisation had established branding but needed a digital platform where members could find information about the network, discover events, read member interviews, and most importantly, connect with each other. As publishing remains heavily London-centric, creating accessible ways for Northern professionals to network was vital to the network's mission.
The Solution
Using the existing branding, I designed and built a website with a searchable member directory feature that made it easy for writers, illustrators and publishing professionals to find and connect with each other independently. The site included event listings, member interviews and clear information about joining the network.
In addition to the website, I created social media assets, event materials, marketing collateral and pitch documents to support the network's growth. As an active committee member, I contributed to monthly meetings and helped shape the strategic direction of the network's visual communications.
The result was a functional, user-friendly platform that empowered regional publishing talent to build relationships and opportunities outside of the London publishing bubble.
