Manchester Fashion Institute is part of Manchester Metropolitan University, offering fashion design and related courses to students seeking a bold, industry-focused education outside of London.
The Brief
Whilst working at Music agency, I was asked to design a logo for the new Manchester Fashion Institute that captured Manchester's confident, industrious spirit. The institute needed to stand out from other fashion colleges and appeal to a diverse audience including prospective students, parents and academics. The logo needed to feel distinctive and contemporary whilst nodding to Manchester's cultural heritage.
The Solution
I designed a logo inspired by the Manchester worker bee and the city's industrious background. The geometric mark referenced Manchester's industrial heritage whilst feeling fresh and modern, positioning the institute as rooted in the city's creative legacy but forward-thinking in its approach to fashion education.
The logo became the foundation for Music agency's 'Fearless Fashion' brand identity, which was then applied across all touchpoints including the prospectus, website, environmental graphics and marketing materials. The bold black and yellow colour palette and confident visual language helped the institute establish a strong, recognisable presence in the competitive fashion education market.
